Blue SQF LogoFebruary 7, 2016

CartonCraft Inc. is pleased to announce that our Saint Charles, IL facility has retained its SQF Level 2 Certification, with a score of 98/100.  This score places CartonCraft Inc. in the “EXCELLENT” category once again.

SQF Level 2 Certification is a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) based food safety and quality management standard that is benchmarked by the Global Food Safe Initiative (GFSI). Products manufactured under the SQF standard retain a high degree of acceptance in global markets by retailers, consumer brands, and food service providers.

CartonCraft’s reputation for excellence in the manufacturing of folding cartons and food safe packaging is again amplified as our processes align with the stringent requirements of the GFSI, opening the doors to new opportunities and growth.

Many packaging suppliers find themselves unable to reach SQF Level 2 certification due to its stringent requirements,” said Jim Whiteley, Quality Manager at CartonCraft Inc. “Our commitments to providing customers with food safe, high quality products while embracing new standards, practices, and technologies proved instrumental in helping us retain this goal,” “We are humbled to add SQF to the list of our numerous certifications such as: ISO 9001:2008, FSC, SFI, and G7.”

By Patti Weber

Ronald McDonald ribbon cutting ceremonyOn Sunday, January 18th, the Ronald McDonald House officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new 19,000-square-foot, two-story, craftsman-style House is located across the street from Central DuPage Hospital. In addition to families of children at CDH, the House will also support families of hospitalized children at the CDH Proton Center in Warrenville, Delnor Hospital in Geneva, and other area hospitals.

“This is a great day for Ronald McDonald House Charities,” said Doug Porter, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana. “This is our fifth home in the Chicagoland area and first in the Western suburbs. We are thrilled to provide a new place for families to stay and connect with others while they’re living through some of life’s most trying times.”

Hosted by Ronald McDonald, the ceremony’s speakers included Lt. Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti, Val Warner, host of Windy City Live, and Village President Erik Spande.  Lisa, Chris, and Caleb Post, residents of Michigan and the first family to stay at the house, also spoke. “We are honored to be the first family here,” said Lisa, mother to 17 month old Caleb.  “We are blessed to be here.” Caleb Post suffers from a brain tumor and will be undergoing radiation at the Proton Cancer Center. “This journey has been isolating, but this is not that,” commented Post.

“Knowing that families such as the Posts are able to stay here while their young son undergoes treatment makes all of the hours volunteering and raising money to build the house so worth it,” commented Trustee Tony Reyes. “I feel for that child and I am glad that we are able to make it easier for him and his family.”

The House includes 12 guest rooms, each with a private bathroom. Eight rooms feature two queen beds, while the remaining four are suites, with a queen bed, twin bed and pull-out couch. In total, the Ronald McDonald House near CDH in Winfield, will accommodate 52 people, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

The House is outfitted in earthy tones of green, rust, red and berry, complementing the natural wood floors. Common areas include comfortable living spaces, a spacious dining and kitchen area, fitness center, game room, laundry facilities, an outdoor patio, and even a unique putting green, courtesy of the Illinois PGA.

Keeping in mind their youngest guests, the House also features a walk-in toy closet where each child can select a toy upon arrival. Multiple play spaces and a game room will also provide hours of entertainment.
